I've always kept a list going in my mind of names I liked. When I was a kid, I'd name all my dolls. I think choosing the name is the fun part, and I think it will be easy.

It's not as easy as you think. The name you choose will be there for the rest of the child's life.

But you're still a kid Chelsea. This is not a doll that you're about to take on responsibility for. You're 16... just be sixteen. Don't rush into the mommy thing. Adoption would be the best thing you could do for yourself and your child. All this sounds like "fun" from the outside looking in. But when you get tired of playing, you can't put the baby down and move on to something else like you could so easily do with a doll.

Well said Lily. Children are a live time job and one I'm really looking forward to.

When I was pregnant, I remember looking everywhere for names. Newspapers, books, magazines - not even baby related ones, anywhere at all. Suddenly my list of clients at work became fascinating to me as I mused on their names and their kid's names. I'd scrutinize the TV and movie credits after the show to see all the different names in case there was anything I liked. No one was safe! :D

It's not as easy as you'd think actually because the first name has to also go with the surname. Sometimes two names just don't sound right together at all. As Jonnie said, it's with that child for the rest of their life, so you need to choose carefully. It is fun also though, I'd be less than honest if I said it wasn't. :)

Babies are nothing like dolls. You're talking about a real person in miniature that depends on you 24/7 for its very survival and I mean that in all seriousness. Food, shelter, love, care, hygiene, health...everything. Yes, they are a joy but no one should even think about having a baby if they're unwilling to devote the huge chunk of time and energy for the next eighteen or so years of their life that's required to raise a happy, healthy child. Motherhood simply is not a responsibility that should be taken on lightly. I honestly believe that it's the most rewarding yet toughest job in the world.

My son ended up having the name his father & I "really didn't" like when I was 6 months pregnant, but somehow after he was born, it fit.

The child will have the same for the rest of their life, like stated, and there are many things to think about when choosing a name (I will be putting a thread up about this exact issue tomorrow). Be patient, all good things come to those who wait, and your not even legal yet, don't worry about things now, just enjoy being 16.
