Do you try and arange play dates with other parents or try and let your kids meet other kids at school? My 8 year old does a prety good job of meeting and setting up his own play dates.

I would think once they're in school it's easy for them. It's always nice to get together for play dates when they're pre-school age. Sometimes you meet other moms and kids in the park or at mommy and me classes. Or sometimes you just have friends or relatives with children near your own children's ages. I think it's always good for them to have other kids their age to play with. I hope my children will always have the opportunity to be around other children their age. I'll do what I can when that time comes.

It's always good to arrange the play dates for the child. When they are young you can meet a lot of kids and their parents in your church community, library story times, and community expo's for kids.

I like to get to know the parents, get together with them a couple of times, feel them out. It's all a matter of intuition. If you like them and you kids like their kids, then things should work out.

Kids have a way of letting you as parent know who they want a play date with. I think that all the suggestions so far are cool. I never thought of kids expo's. School events are a good way of meeting parents and kids to. After awhile they start getting invitations from other kids for b-day parties and sleep overs.
