View Full Version : Potty training...ugh!

Potty training is the hardest thing a parent has to do! Ok, not really, the teen years will bring more serious problems, I'm sure, but my goodness! How much poop can one mom be expected to clean up in one lifetime?

Just venting...my daughter (2 1/2) is actually doing quite well, but she just can't seem to tell when a poop is coming. Out of 5 poops, only one ends up in the toilet. I feel like I need to put tarps down all over my house for the next 2 weeks!! Sigh....

It will get better! My oldest didn't realise what was happening either, for the longest time. The poop would always start in their underwear and I would see that their body posture had changed. I picked them up very quickly and carried them to the potty. Carefully removed the underwear and had them sit on the potty whilst I emptied the poop into the toilet, telling her whilst I did that the loo was where poop went.

It helped that I used cloth diapers so I just threw the knickers in the diaper bucket.

My kid is 2 1/2 yo and we are starting potty training. It's a process and takes long time. Ppl say it's better to start when they're 3yo, makes sense. I don't know how much he's learning, but controling his muscles is hard for a 2 1/2yo.

I'm not too keen on the trend to potty train younger and younger these days myself. I understand daycares don't want to deal with diapers, but in the meanwhile I wonder how many issues we're setting kids up for down the road.

It can take some time to learn and lots of mistakes. Rushing or starting too soon seems silly.

Patience and continue the work are the two best things I can say. I see many parents get upset over this and not continually work with the kid and it ends up taking longer.
