Did anyone here teach their baby sign language? I don't know anything but the alphabet. I looked up some websites but it's really hard to learn from a book or unanimated images (and couldn't find anything animated at the time). I really wanted to do this, but was unable.
Then I heard some people talking about how they used ASL with their baby and she wouldn't start talking until they stopped using it! I don't see the harm in that, because she supposedly started talking non stop like a pro when they did. And now if they continue with the ASL on the side, a 2nd almost universal language is never a bad tool to have under your belt.
Right now with my daughter, maybe I use sign language (not what you are taught, more made up between us both). I can make a gesture for her feeding time (she has been eating baby cereal since she was 3 months old, when we started here). So I guess it is kind of so-so if it is any type of sign language, just something her and I understand.
I make munching moves with my mouth when she is eating, and she started to imitate me about two weeks ago doing this (the chew motion) since she is now eating 3x a day, breakfast is a big bowl of cereal with fruit juice in it, lunchtime is split between some veggies and some more fruits (usually something different than her juice, so if her juice is apple, I will give her bananas at lunch, etc.) and dinner time, she gets mixed veggies and another mix of meat (for her protein intake). She will be 9 months soon, weighs about 20lbs and I cant for the life of me get her to stay still long enough to measure her height - I need to work on that. She still sleeps through the night, as she has since age 5 weeks, and I can not believe how completely different she is compared to her brother. :)

I have worked with babies that use baby sign language. Mostly Juice, Cracker, More, Please, Thanks...basics like that. It is very helpful and calming because the child is able to communicate more precisely than crying.
I think if you you tube search you may find clips of baby sign language
