I was the child of a single parent, but for me back then the phrase single parent meant that the parents had divorced. A child of a single parent of today can be from many other different situations. There are teen pregnancies, adoptions, and other types of scenarios. Do you think that it has become harder for the children of single parents in these scenarios or is it easier? Has society accepted the single parent/child household of today?

I went to school with a lot of kids that had only one parent. For the most part they seemed to be doing okay. It was when I was older that I realized that maybe they weren't. A lot of them had the responsibility of younger brother and sisters to watch after if they went to the same schools. Some of them had them to watch after school. They couldn't stay after school for after school activities. I guess that they were the first generation of latch key kids.
