Hello,

I was just wondering if I could get some help from more experienced mothers. How long do you think a baby should sleep at night? I have an anxious nerve that mine isn't getting enough sleep!

Also is it odd for a child not liking to be touched? Mine kicks and screams, I can barely hold it close. I can just see it's going to turn into this antisocial people hater :S

If he does not sleep much in the night, he will do it in the day, their bodies normally take the amount of rest they need so don't worry about it. Just make sure their sleep environment is condusive.

Babies are different, you could speak soothingly to him for a while, that may help.

Thankyou for the advice :)

Yes he does seem to sleep alot more during the day, however I still dont feel he gets enough sleep at all.

How many hours is reccomended for sleep? Is it about eleven?

I will try singing to him, thankyou :)

How old is your baby? That would be helpful to know, so I can give you an average of how much sleep during 24 hour period. My 14 month old needs about 14-15 hours, my 3 year old has needed about 12-13 for, oh, a year and a half.

My 2 yr old sleeps about 10-12 each night and he naps at least 2 hours most days. Sometimes he refuses to sleep especially when there is much activity around.

Charlie has always been on the low end of normal. At 4 weeks he was only sleeping an average of 14 hours a day. Now, at just over a year, he sleeps about 13 hours total. 10 hours at night, one 30-45 minute nap, and one 1 hour nap.

He is nine months old, is less than ten or anything a worry? I heard that during the first few years sleep is most important time to develop brain

I would be concerned at less than 10 hours of sleep. Not only is it when they grow, but they would also be chronically sleep deprived. How does he seem during the day?
