Do you use soothers for your baby? Does your baby need them?

I've seen people actually foster an attachment to an object in their babies. By always associating a blanket or a doll with something like nursing, or cuddling, or rocking. So when the baby is discomforted they can hand them that object for security instead of having to comfort the baby themselves.

I don't really like that idea because what if that object is lost or destroyed? But then, I can't recall how many times I wished he could want to cling to something BESIDES ME!

What's your thoughts on this matter?

My daughter never needed anything but my son got very attached to a blanket. It was rough for a couple nights after I had to throw it away because it was beyond patchable. But after that he moved on. If it works, use it.

My son, who is now five, only had me as a soother. :) My daughter however, will not go to sleep without this plush elephant her Gram got her when she was just born. Its pink and purple (more lavender) and winds up to sing different cuts of lullaby songs. She absolutely loves this, and if it is not in her crib when its bedtime, she will scream bloody murder!

We never take this toy out of the crib, so it will never go missing, and I have already found afew places on line that sell this, so in case the bad does happen, can be easily replaced. ;)
