Do you think that there's any advantage to store bought educational toys versus home made educational toys?

With my first child, I read and listened to all the hype on the advantages of all there was out there on the market to teach my child through all the stages of development. It was EXPENSIVE!

My second child came along and I found he got just about the same enjoyment with beating on a large sized, empty oatmeal box rather than a mini toy drum. For me...the noise was the same!...lol

Many of these items are indeed expensive. We didn't use many educational toys with my kids and they ended up fine.

We tend to get store bought things a little more. It entertains him for a long time before we have to get another.

Making your own toys is a cool idea. there's something more satisfying about seeing your baby playing with something you made for them than a store bought toy.

My kids got their share of store bought toys, but they also loved playing with the tupperware and empty boxes. I came to realize that a child's imagination could litterally turn anything into a toy. My daughter loved stuffed animals when she was little, but her absolute favorite was a sock monkey her aunt made for her. Take that Teddy Ruxpin!
