View Full Version : Teething......
A few questions about teething......
Which teeth are usually the worst coming in? Which ones will cause the baby the most discomfort?
Also...... does teething cause cold-like symptoms? I've heard that it does but I'm not sure the information came from a reliable source.

Yes, teething can cause cold like symptoms and high fever.
When mine were teething I couldn't tell which tooth gave them the most discomfort as it seemed they all did.
If the fever gets high, should the baby be taken to the hospital? Even if it's just from teething?

If the fever gets high, you should take the baby to the hospital immediately regardless of what is causing it. High fevers are very dangerous. The baby could go into convulsions. If your baby is experiencing a fever while they're teething, make sure you monitor it closely and be ready to get to the hospital the second it goes too high.

Good advice.

For the pain of teething, you might want to try some orajel. Sometimes it helps. Also, keep teething rings in the refrigerator. The coldness seems to help them too.
Many parents are against Oragel, as it ends up dripping down the back of the throat and can cause the gag reflex. I used this for my baby girl (http://www.gentlenaturals.com/products/teething_label.cfm) when she started to get her numbs (small white caps under the gum line), now this past week she has broken the gum with her bottom right tooth and is not even fussing - miracle!
What is wrong with oragel? When my daughter was teething we just put some vodka on her gums. It worked like a charm. Now they say that is bad. Most things we did in my day were.

The worst ones are the back teeth. They are wide and don't cut through the gums as easily as the front teeth. We did use oragel every now and then to help him with those. But not often, normally giving him a boob could drive all the pain right out of his mind!
lol Gramma - I know thats what they did with me too!
I cant say I would do that with one of my own, but I would before I would have with someone else's child. Oragel numbs the throat area, and the gag reflux (for some infants) - it ends up making it worse, thats why. :)
