Is there an average time that a toddler is ready for a big bed or no? I wonder since I have seen different parents make the switch at different times. Maybe some little kids are more content in the crib still by three?

I don't know for sure as my baby is not even two yet, but I am thinking of getting a big bed but have some rails installed for the first few months or so and once he gets used to that I take them off.

One of my friends has a son who just turned 2. He recently started climbing out of his crib so she switched him to a toddler bed.
When my kids were little as long as they were happy in the crib I let them stay. I think they were 3 when they switched to a bigger bed.

My oldest was about 2-3'ish when he got his big boy bed. The transition is tough sometimes but once they get used to it its all good. My girl is still in her crib right now, a little on the short side so we still have plenty of time before she learns to climb out.

I got my now 7 yr old out of his crib when he was about 2, because his brother was on the way, and would need the crib. He did ok with the transition. Then I got his brother out of the crib when HE was 2 because their sister was on the way, LOL! Again, no big issues. Then, my daughter wanted into HER big girl bed because the boys were in beds, so she came out of the crib when she was 20 months.

I think if your child is happy in the crib and you don't need it for anyone else, there's no big rush.

I think when they start climbing out or start looking cramped in the crib space, it is time to start looking to make the transition to a bigger bed.
