With both of my children, I always took all of my prenatel vitamins. I have never been a great health person to start with, but when it comes to having someone inside of you that depends on everything you eat and drink, I took that into high consideration. This is for all the ladies (and men) that are not sure where to start. :)

It is important, very important.
I personally couldnt take the pills they gave me because they had iron in them and it made me puke.
I ended up taking a store brand mulitviti w/o iron and folic acid everyday. My dr even said, even if you just take flintstones vitis, lol, its better than nothing!!

I hated those vitamins! Such a nasty after taste. But I took them. I agree with you, alexis, another life is dependent on what you eat and drink, so it's really not just your preferences that count.

I wish more people saw it that way. :)

This is really a good post and everybody who are planning and are having a baby should read this. This is very important because the development of the child will depend mostly on the things that the mother is taking inside her body.
Fruit juices instead of beverages, fruits instead of sweets, and maybe a gum instead of smoke will help the child to have a better development. We can't be sure if the child is really normal until the age of 1 or 2 years when the mental development will come to test.

ISuch a nasty after taste.
Nasty, but needed. Isn't that the way it always works? :)

I think so too. Just think of the health of the baby and yourself then close your eyes and take the medicine.
Because you have mentioned this one, I think this also applies to kids that are needs to take yucky syrups or tablets. We should educate them that even the taste is not that good, it is for their health.

The ones the doctor gave me made me sick, so I finally went to a natural supplement store and found some prenatal vitamins that were in a clear capsule. They didn't make me sick and I stuck with them.

I took my pre-natal vitamins with no problem in my first pregnancy. However, I was unable to in my second pregnancy because the iron in them made me very sick. So, I asked my doctor and he ok'd it for me to take an over the counter multi-vitamin w/o iron. These were so much easier to take and my daughter was born a healthy 8 pound 11 oz bundle of joy.

I am already taking prenatal vitamins while trying to conceive. The doctor suggested this as it makes sure you have enough folic acid for the early stages before you even know you are pregnant.
My sister wasn't able to take vitamins at all during one of her pregnancies because they made her so sick. She discovered that drinking Ovaltine set well in her stomach and the vitamin content is nearly that of a multi-vitamin. She only needed to increase her natural folic acid intake.
