When my babies were small a lot of parents had to deal with thrush. Mine never had that. Anyone else here have to deal with that?I never sterilized baby bottles either, so it was not cause by that.

Some people have a higher chance of yeast based infections, which thrush is on the list of. So perhaps the babies you knew were just more susceptible and your children weren't. It is normally caused by an imbalance of the yeast organisms not an infection or germs. Its is also the cause of diaper rashes.

It tends to be caused when the child has to take antibiotics for something. The antibiotics knock out all of the good bacteria in the body too, and without the good bacteria there is an open, perfect breeding ground for the yeast. There is no competition left for the yeast and so it thrives.

Probiotics given at the same time as the antibiotic can help to prevent this and you should talk to your doctor about it if your child is prone to yeast infections.

There are always bad bacteria in our mouth, as well as the good bacteria. We cannot completely remove the bad bacteria in our mouth but we could maintain the good bacteria in there. If ever you know some child that has thrush, you could advice the parents to buy some yogurt for it contains certain amount of good bacteria to fight back the bad bacteria.

My kids would get thrush on their bottoms. It is a very nasty diaper rash. The best thing for it is fresh air and sunshine! Thrush likes a moist environment. Whenever possible I would let them "air" without a diaper in a sunny spot in the living room. Plus feed them a little yogurt. It always worked!

I am still stirilizing my bottles and my baby is 19 months. On the point of thrush, I know someone whose baby has it and she is dealing with it as the doctors advised her.

My babies weren't even on bottles at 19 months. The drs said they should not be on bottle by the time they turn one year old.

I disagree with the; by the time they one part. Yes, they need to leave them behind after one, but the formula is too important till that point, so you shouldn't really force it before at one.

FamilyGuy-thrush is a yeast, not a bacteria. It flourishes in the absence of bacteria, and that is why antibiotics tend to make it happen.

Both of mine have had thrush once or twice, solved by treatment with gentian violet. I'm a good host for yeast, so I'm pretty sure that's why they had it.

I nursed my 3 children. While in labor with my first, I received antibiotics, and 1 week after the birth of my 3rd, I received antibiotics when I was sick. Both children developed thrush, as did I. VERY painful, I might add. The antibiotics threw my system off, and I transmitted it to them. We had to take medication to get rid of it.

I don't necessarily think sterilizing bottles has that much to do with it, since as a pp mentioned it's not a bacteria, it's yeast.
