I'm so excited! I'm ten weeks so will I get to hear the heartbeat yet? Will they be able to tell me what I'm having? The doctor just said that they will be giving me ultrasounds fairly frequently until they're sure everything is okay. I had such difficulty conceiving that they thought I had some weird thing wrong where the embryo couldn't attach itself in the uterus? Can't remember the mile long name the doctor used. So anyway, they want to make sure everything is going as it's supposed to.

You should be very excited, it is a very humbling experience, the thought that you are carrying someone inside you, and you can actually see movements and hear a heartbeat. Just lovely.

Good luck. At ten weeks you will see and hear a heartbeat but it's too early to tell the gender yet. That won't happen until about 20 weeks. It really is amazing to see that little bieng you created.

Some doctors/technicians will 'try' and guess the gender at about 13 weeks in my experience of friends-however the accuracy is very low and I am sure that the only reason they are right so often is that there is only a 50/50 chance of being wrong!

I did get to hear the heartbeat which was incredible in itself but it was so neat seeing the baby in there. I almost wet myself when the doctor put that gel stuff on my tummy, though. Geesh, you'd think they'd warm it up more!
