We have a family member who screwed up pretty bad when she named her daughter. I mean, Angela Suzanne is a pretty name, but when your last name starts with an "S", you're gonna wanna rethink that. So, when you're thinking of names for your child, don't forget to check to see if the initials spell anything.

HAHAAHAHAHA! Oh that's just brilliant. I will chuckle for a week over that one.

This is something I thought about all the time before we named our daughter. His last name begins with a W, and he wanted Cailyn Arianna, which would make her CAW (like a bird caw's), I told him no, and after a vote/tally of about 50 people we know, I won the fight. So she is ACW now.

I thought more about this with her, than I did my son (first pregnancy), lucky his initials turned out to be ASR (think about that for a second, it will kick in). :D

My best friend is KIP and thats been her nickname since childhood. Now she goes by Kristian, and every time i call her phone i'm like..wait, did i get the wrong number? lol

I thought long and hard with my boy's name not only in regards to nicknames but initials too, lol. I wanted to make sure everything could be *just right*

There are a few nasty names out there - some both racist and that can offend people of many religions. I've known people with initials of KKK, NGR...it's sad really - careless parents.

Excellent advice there, Lily! Nice to meet you. :)

I never thought about initials when choosing my son's name but one thing I did want was something that couldn't be shortened or changed, for example, Robert being changed to Bob.

I read a funny story in a magazine about a lady that felt the same way and called her daughter Amber. All was fine until her daughter started school and her school friends would come to the door and say " is 'Amburger in?" LOL.

She didn't see that one coming! :D

My husband is a victim of this. Our yearbooks always use the first initial and last name until you were the top year in the school and "graduating" to the next. T.watts is so not the nickname anyone wants. And although most of them don't remember much about my husband, they still can recall that nickname before his actual name.
