regular baby food flavors?
I was looking for baby beef to use in a recipe the other day and realized the only thing close was beef and beef gravy or some junk like that. Which is to say nothing of the other flavors I saw:lasagne, spaghetti, veggies and cheese, and all other sorts of mixes. Am I imagining things or was the baby beef I used to eat with gravy and I just don't recall? This kind of disturbs me as it seems to set kids up to want food thats more processed and not as healthy for them. Veggies are good for you, but do they need to add cheese?

As long as they still make vanilla custard pudding I will never complain. I still eat that stuff in my lunch sometimes. They still make simpler foods for the younger ones though. Its just as you get into the second and third foods that Gerber makes crazy stuff not just apples. And I suppose as a parent you have a choice of not feeding the weird stuff and sticking to simple foods until your child can eat solid foods.
I remember that Gerber used to make a Orange and Pineapple mix that was so good. My younger brother used to always get his stolen from me when we were younger, he is about 3 years less than me. I cant find that anywhere in a store anymore, and its something I really wanted to be able to share with my own son.

I guess even babyfood flavors have gone "Xtreme" to keep with the current marketing trends in other types of food.
Pretty stupid if you ask me, especially if you won't even give us the option of buying more traditional flavors!

Some of the traditional stuff is still available, but mostly in the early sizes-the stage one foods. They have the plain veggies and meat-at least Beachwood does.
The more funky stuff is intended (like the lasagne) to introduce the child to real food, ready for the table.

I understand the intentions but there should still be more choices available in all stages of babyfood, not just stage 1.
There was a time when all baby food was kept simple, but then things started to change around the late 80's or early 90's.
I know the only thing I can think of that is pineapple orange is a juice now, but its for adults not children or babies. As for the trends, I kind of understand the transition from baby (pureed) to chunkier food before adult food, but some of the flavors even shock me, and thats pretty hard to do most of the time.

The biggest problem is how bland baby food is. When they then move on to table food, it's a big change.
Baby food in the UK is very different. Way more flavorful and interesting-when we visited there we stocked up and brought a suitcase full home!

There are so many varieties now. I just bought (for the grandson), Chicken and brocoli, and (this one even grosses me out)--Chicken and APPLES!, Yep, apples! Haven't tried it yet. But I though this was an odd combo....but it's also a 'two-fer', meat and fruit! :)

Chicken and apples...sounds good to me. I never noticed babyfood selections myself, but I would agree there needs to be a balance between just meat or just veggies/fruits and dinner foods for older kids. I mean I guess its important to expose kids to different things, but I would worry about getting them hooked on tastes too young. I mean I doubt I ever had lasagna until I was eating solid foods regularly. But then again you could always opt to make your own. Perhaps a health food store would have a plain beef babyfood for your cooking needs?
