As a new parent, it is sometimes hard to know when your child is sick enough to need medical attention and when you are simply overreacting.

Does your concern stem from being a normal, novice parent with a lot of concern and very little experience? Or is your child really sick?

After my girl was born last Oct. I was actually told from the hospital that if her temp. is not at least 102, don't even bother bringing her in. I was kind of shocked at this, since then her father & I have decided to hold off on any shots, expect the ones she was giving in the hospital, and she has never been sick in the past 10 months *knock on wood*. Sometimes hospitals really surprise me, when my gut tells me my child needs to see a doctor and the doctor tells me something like that, he/she better expect to end up in the ER Room their selves, and not for being a doctor - more-so for being a patient with a fat lip.

Yes, they basically mean you should be able to bring it down. But I would never let the temp go that high without an ER trip. It could be any number of things causing it, especially with a young baby, and it's not worth risking it.

I say you should always trust your gut. Mommy gut is the best instinct there is, imo.

We took my lil boy in when his temp had hit 105, but because he was bouncing around and just irritable, they didnt really do anything for him. *I* thought if it was that high they would want him on a cooling bed or something, but nope. They told us, if he's acting mostly normal, then dont worry. Sent us home w/ a script for some aniti's for a possible ear infection and instructions to not worry unless HE was crashing no matter what the temp.
