View Full Version : Working Out The Baby's Sex

I remember one lesson in Human Anatomy and Physiology when I was in college. My professor told me that you can work out the sex of the baby depending on the time the couples make out. Do you think this is true? Are there any proof about this theory?

I can't imagine this to be true but it's new to me so maybe there's a kernel of truth in it. Wouldn't be very feasible to work it out though unless you know exactly which time you conceived and that's pretty tough to do.

A few years ago I heard (or read, I don't remember where) that the male sperm were quicker but died sooner, and female sperm were slower but lasted longer. It said to do the deed often for a boy, 3 days before ovulation to 3 days after. I don't know if there's any truth to it though.

It's called the Shettles Method for gender selection. The pp had the right idea; often for a boy right up to the day of ovulation, early in the cycle for a girl, but cut out sex 4 or 5 days before ovulation. We tried it with our first and second, both times hoping for a girl. The first time it didn't work (got our boy, but I ovulated early than I thought I would), second time it did.

I wonder how well that works though. I mean, a person has a 50-50 chance every time of getting what they want, or what they weren't hoping for. Even if the methods increase the odds a little, it's best not to rely on them, and be happy with whatever you get.

Lol, not quite as scientific as made out to sound is it? Although betting on odds is a pretty good way to skew the results in your favor I somehow doubt its foolproof. I know my sister-in-law has tried this and it didn't work for her, lol.

Oh I remember from one of my classes, making out at noon will likely produce a boy. The reason for this is that the sperms are most active at noon. I might want to prove (or disprove) this theory when I'm married.

I think they are all great ideas but not all may work. There is always the chance that you miscalculate remember. :) I still think its a fun thing to try and prove/disprove though!!

The male sperm swims quicker and the female sperm is alive longer. You just have to time the insemation good, than you can nearly "choose" the gender. Sorry for my bad english :)

I have seen those claims in more than one place. People attributing the sex of a child to various things, but I think that genes have a lot to do with it and not necessarily the time intercourse takes place.
