View Full Version : Would this irritate you?

There's this couple we know that has two kids. They were here for Christmas a couple years ago. We got gifts for the kids, and so did my in-laws. These kids were honestly, ripping off the paper as quickly as they could and tossing the gifts aside. I'm betting if you'd quizzed them on it, they couldn't have told you what was in most of those packages. I found it kind of irritating. But I did make a promise to myself (and I've stuck to it), from that point on, they would only ever get one gift from us at Christmas. Less expensive for us, and less stuff for them to just toss aside. In my opinion kids that do that probably get too many gifts already.

I think it would do more than just irritate me. I was born on Yule Eve (Christmas Eve), alot of people used to think that I always got two sets of toys, one for birthday one for the holiday - that never happened. :)

It sounds like these children are spoiled and sadly do not understand the true meaning of the holiday - it is not just about the gifts, maybe if someone could sit them aside and teach them, it would not be such an issue & they could learn to appreciate what they receive rather than toss it aside.

That would def. bother me to. We have to work extra hours leading up to Xmas to be able to afford buying gifts for everyone on Stacy's side of the family and mine. We try to especially get all the children atleast 2 gifts each but if any of them did that infront of me you can bet the next year it would be just one or two very cheap gifts.

If I'm understanding this properly, you're asking if it would irritate you if the child paid more attention to the gifts and unwrapping them?

Personally I think that since they're so young, they may not understand what Xmas is about and the stories behind it.

It depends on the kids. So much of the fun for them is ripping and stuff. I remember my kids being the same way. Wanted to open them all immediately, then spend the rest of the day playing with them. If you mean they opened them, then ignored them, then walked off, yeah I'd be really peeved.
