They're pretty sure my daughter will need a C-section, but told her there might be a chance of her having the baby through a regular delivery. I hate to see her go through all those hours of labor and then end up with a C-section anyway. But she thinks it's in the baby's best interest to at least give it a shot. I don't agree... but I really think this is one of those times I need to back off.

It's one of those things. You're right. I know that whatever my daughter would decide to do I would have to just sit tight. I know I made my mom do the same thing. I went natural birth, did end up with a c-section, but I wanted to at least try.

There's really nothing that you can do but support her. I was told that I could never have children and my Mom so tried to convince me not to have children just based on what the Dr's had said, but I proved the Dr's and my Mom wrong...twice.

That's what happened to me, GrannyVi, 19 hours of labor before they did an emergency C-section. I had added complications from the muscle relaxant given in tandem with the anaesthetic for my C-section (which apparently makes it easier for them to cut through the muscle during the procedure), but that's a very very rare thing.

Had I known that I'd have to have the C-section in the first place, I'd have gone right ahead with that. I honestly don't see the point in letting someone keep on trying to deliver their baby until they're absolutely exhausted and the baby's in distress yet some doctors (including mine) insist that you attempt it. While a C-section takes a lot more recovery time than a straightforward birth, if you need to have it, why put your body and baby through all that beforehand? That's my thought on it anyway. :)

Good luck to her, I hope it all goes as smoothly as possible whichever route she chooses. :)

I tend to agree. I don't know the reason for the c-section but I agree, why chance the baby's life if you don't have to.I don't mean to scare you but there have been instantes where the cord gets wrapped around the baby's neck during labor.

Doctors must be sure with their decision. Even me hate to suffer from hours of labor but will end up delivering under C-section. It is very time consuming and of course you should have not suffer from the pains of labor if you will deliver under C-section.

I think it would have to depend on the reason the doctors are "sure". If her bones aren't big enough and the baby will likely get stuck, then I would consider it. Or if the cord was wrapped around the baby's neck. If baby is breech, a natural delivery is very likely, although doctors like to give a section due to the increased risk.

There aren't too many reasons why a section would be chosen over at least trying for a natural birth, since natural birth recovery is easier on baby and mother.

Sit tight and take comfort. Since the doctors expect complications, they will be ready, the epidural will be done and the proper medical team will be ready for anything.

Doctors are wrong far too many times to just take their word for it and that is why she should try. The risks of c-section are increased risk of both maternal and neonatal death-three times increased in fact. Add to that the increased blood loss and risk of other complications, along with long recovery time and having a hard time even caring for your newborn for the first three weeks!

It's just not worth it-if there is ANY chance of her delivering naturally, it is in her best interests to try.
