What is the youngest age in your area that you're allowed to adopt? I am nineteen years old, if I lived in your town, would I be able to adopt a child? If not, how old would I have to be?

I wasn't aware there was an acceptable age to adopt, but I guess that's logical. I thought they looked at tthe maturity of the person and how they would be able to support the child among other things.

I never really thought of it. I don't think there is an age. It probably goes on maturity level. Also, the amount of time and hoops needed to adopt would weed out all but the really wanting. At 19, I think they'd ask why you want to adopt so young though.

Not only that but also whether or not you can provide a stable home for the child, both as far as a normal family unit is concerned, and whether you can provide for the child financially. I would guess that is more important.

However I do believe that there is likely to be an age limit. 19 is young to even be having your own child, let alone dealing with the issues surrounding adoption.

ETA; I just looked online, and found 21 to be a pretty normal lower age listed in the criteria.

To adopt from foreign countries you have to 30.... which i think is outrageous. In the US I think it's 21 .... not positive though.... when i neice and nephrew went up for adoption I was elligible and I was 20 and my husband was 19. So I think it depends.
