I never fed my children out of the jars, I fed them prepared veggies. Their first real food was almost always sweet potato. I didn't have to do anything to it but bake it. Then maybe white potato which needed butter added. They graduated to farina and soft white rice.
Mine never liked baby food (I only bothered trying with the first one). My first DID like the flaked rice cereal, mixed with applesauce. Applesauce (unsweetened) is a pretty good "first food" also!
I am with Mom2JDS, the first real food I gave my baby was the cereal with the fruit. I usually buy frozen fruits if I can't get the fresh ones in season.
I really like these ideas. I want to go the healthy way with the twins. I see how many preservatives packaged foods have now a days and it makes me cringe.
