Babysitting

At what age is a girl ready to start working as a babysitter? Are there places where they can take classes on how to be good responsible babysitters? How much should they be paid? My niece is getting close to that age an she has asked me to help convince her mom she is ready.

My nephew, who is 12, just had his first babysitting class. I believe he got all the details on how to setup his own 'babysitting service'. He took it from the American Red Cross at his local community college. Maybe you could check with your local Red Cross, community colleges or parks and recreation departments to see if they offer anything like that

My daughter took a babysitting class right in school. She was certified any everything. She was 12. I almost think that was the age that she could do this. Check with the local Red Cross, they might have information too.

My daughter has a 17 year old girl to babysit her two toddlers. She wouldn't leave them with anyone younger. She knows this girl and her family well so the children know her and like her. I think it all depends on how responsible and mature the person is and how old the children are, but there is nothing in law, in the UK at least, to specify a minimum age.

Each person is different and matures at a different time so there is no set age I would say. I wouldn't want a 12 year old watching my kids but that is just me. I have neighbors who leave their 12 year old in charge of their younger children. But yes you can usually take classes at the Red Cross.

Yes I do know that you can take classes to be a baby sitter and also it is a good idea to go through CPR training. I was 9 when I was taking care of my 2 sisters, but I would not let a 9 year old watch my children!
