I've always been very attentive to my childrens' posture because I can't stand bad posture and furthermore bad posture might be a sign of lack of confidence and can lead to other problems later on in life, so when I saw my son coming home from school slouching over with only one strap on when there's supposed to be two, I got a little fidgety.
Of course I brought this topic up at the dinner table and he said he just has too many books and papers to carry home each day to which I asked, "Well don't you have a locker?" That was answered with a feeble "Yes". I checked his backpack and to my surprise he has a lot of junk in there which is not necessary for school. Needless to say, I began a new routine of 'random checks' on some mornings and emphasized on the correct way to wear a backpack. They got the point, and soon enough got tired of trying to 'smuggle' goods into their backpacks.
I think I went off topic a little. :P I just want to stress that backpacks are useful if worn the right way and a hazard when worn the wrong way. I also think kids need to be disciplined on their posture if they have a bad one to start with.
