I have been using the depo shot since my girl was born and now its time for a new one. I did a pre auth with my doctors office, first the women did one for the wrong type of BC (Mirena when I wanted to check on Implanon). It seems the Mirena is $30.00 copay with 100% paid by insurance. So then we check on the Implanon and its also a $30.00 copay but my insurance deduct right now is $750.00 so that would be out of pocket for me and insurance would cover the other 3-400.00 of it.

We are going with Mirena and see how that goes (last for 5 yrs compared to Implanon that last only three). Anyone else been on this before?

I remember when depo came out and many people had "depo babies" as it was not nearly as reliable as many thought.

After this one we might end up getting fixed fully and I have no idea what the price will be though it is something I will be looking into. I'm debating between being fixed and letting nature run her course.

I've been thinking about getting an IUD when my period comes back.. though we'll see when it does. We want to have another baby in 2010, and then hubby will likely get the snip.

I was thinking about the paraguard, which is non-hormonal. Let us know how the dialation goes. That's the part that scares me!

I hear that the dilation isn't too bad, but the IUD isn't for me, just too many moral issues to consider.

Sorry that they messed up your pre-authorisation. That's rather silly. Either way, I hope that you have found something that you are happy with.

My appointment is not until late next week but its something that took sometime back and forth to decide on. I did not want to go the copper route as I have been allergic to some metals in the past and that just seems like a rather bad idea.

Mirena is plastic, quite tiny and has a good % rate for it. I cant do the depo any longer (though it did give me no PMS for quite sometime which was nice). Mirena might flake with my cycle for the first few months but after that will settle out. I also thought about the patch but I dont do well with skint thats sensative and sticky things either.

I actually got Mirena after my son was born. It is awesome.I have absolutely no complaints at all. It isn't uncomfortable. My cramping went form excrutiating pain to no pain. My periods are short and light, if at all. I have had it for about 4 years and one of the reasons I choose that was because it was hormone free. So... no new acne and no weight gain. I think you chose the right form of birth control.

It is not hormone free, Im not sure where you found that out. From the site directly (as well as the pamplet I received from my OBGYN) "Mirena, an estrogen-free intrauterine contraceptive (IUC) that delivers small amounts of hormone directly to the uterus"

So maybe you have confused it with estrogen? Just wanted to make sure no one was confused by the statement. You can read more about it on their website here.

Paraguard is the hormone free IUD, it's made from copper and somehow makes the uterus inhospitable to a fertilized egg (perhaps it is electrical current, we aren't completely sure). Maybe you are confused as to which one you have, ayan?

Yea I had thought about that one before, but I cant remember if Im allergic to copper or not and would rather not take that chance if you know what I mean. Mirena is all plastic which is good for me since thats somethingI know I wont have issues with.
