Common Lunches

What do you usually pack your kids for lunch? Or lunch for kids? Or however you word that...

Whenever I made myself lunch I always just threw in a drink, a plain sandwich - nothing special. A piece or two of meat with a cheese slice or two and bread. Then a treat of some sort haha. Cheese string or jello or something. Or just somehow I make myself jump at work and say "Yay guys my mom threw $5 in my lunchbox!!"

When I do lunches for the children I sit for, I try and make a small snack thats a goodie type, and a healthy one. Some of them have food allergies, so the sandwiches are always plain (no condiments). An allergy list is a great thing for a babysitter!

Simple is best for when they are younger. My son would only eat PB&J sandwiches for about 5 years straight, so I think I really should have invested some stock in PB long ago, I would be a rich lady now thats for sure. My younger sister has an odd habit, when she was about 7 she started eating two sandwiches in her lunch, and then another when she would get home from school. This girl could pack away the food and never gain a pound! Now I see the difference between her and I having different fathers.

Has anyone ever packed non sandwich type things for lunches? I am just curious to try and get some more ideas for the ones I sit for. Sometimes we go out to the park to eat and I was thinking of doing something a tad different.

I used to hate sandwiches in my lunch. I used to take things like crackers and cheese, veggie sticks and dip, and fruit snacks or granola bars. I used to also make trail mix by the barrel to have as a snack. I still make trail mix for my husband to take to work:can of mixed nuts, bag of pretzel chunks, bag of raisins, box of granola cereal, bag of M&Ms. I add dried cherries or cranberries to mine as well as yogurt raisins.

Granola bars for me were breakfast, I'm not a big eater right when I wake up, so something simple like that worked better for me, otherwise I would get crazy nauseas. As for lunch, sandwiches were okay, but I hear you on the crackers and such. School lunch, lets face is, not that great. I know it can be healthy as my culinary arts used to make the food for two years, but its not that "yummy". Trail mix is a good snack, I used to sneak that during classes when the lunch was bad and I hadn't packed any. Then again, depending on what you pack, you cant really get away with telling your school "Hey can you refrigerate my lunch for me, I don't want it to go bad".

Has anyone used those lunch ables or anything? I am wondering how good (health wise) they are, I have ate them but thats different, I'm not growing taller or anything, just wider.
