Constipation

My newborn (2 months) is having issues with constipation. My pediatrician says not to worry unless he goes longer than 3 days without having a bowel movement. When he does go- he goes A LOT! I heard that if I switched to soy formula it might help. Any advice?

Is this a breast fed or bottle fed baby? My son was breastfeed and would poop one time a week. Breast fed babies do not have to have poops as often as bottle fed babies do.

I wouldn't worry if your doctor said things were fine. I would be grateful that he isn't going 3 times a day everyday. I don't know about the soy, it might work. You could always give it a try.

I would suggest giving your baby dairy free diet. Its the cows milk thats causing these problems.

Regardless of what it is caused from, give him some apricot or peach nectar in a bottle everyday. He's so little that he won't need a lot. That should help loosen him up a bit.

I was told that giving them a little water will help. What I do know is not to follow the old way which was putting a little sugar in their bottles. I do not know who came up with that one. It may work, but the side effects are too bad.

My pediatrician said that we could give my little one a little bit of water with a tiny bit of apple juice mxed in. I wouldn't take your baby off the formula they are already on without talking to your pediatrician.

He is not breastfed. He was on the Enfamil Gentlease but I switched him to the Isomil Soy and everything seems to be coming out better. He actually pooped 3 days in a row which hasn't happened since he was born!
