Day time sleepers
Do you get your toddlers to sleep much during the days, does your schedule for sleep actually work. I just had to fight my toddler to take a nap, I wanted to nap too, but I have so many things to do.

I find that the biggest thing for achieving a nap is providing the right conditions. Some kids just are not able to cope with the light streaming through the window, and noises in the room. We had a very sleepless time until I started using black out blinds, a blanket on top of heavy curtains and white noise.

I find the same thing. Mine goes down better if I take a nap too. Music and the blinds/curtains drawn are a big help too. I'm not above doing something nice and physical before nap time to tire them out either.

My daughter has always been a big sleeper. She takes at least one long 2-3 hr nap everyday. Then when she gets tucked in for the night she sleeps from 9p-9a every night. At times it still amazes me how easy she is to go to sleep!

My son (16 months) takes 2 daytime naps. He still does a morning nap for about 1 to 1-1/2 hours and then another nap of the same duration in the afternoon. He goes to bed for the night between 6 and 7 and wakes up between 5 and 6 in the morning.

My son was never a big napper. My daughter on the other hand was the complete opposite. She would take a 2-3 hr nap during the day and still be ready to go down for the night around 9pm. Now that she's in first grade, she is wore out by the time she gets home. So, she will generally still conk out for a couple hours about an hour after she gets home and then get in bed for the night around 10pm. I guess all kids are just different.

I think some children just love to sleep making it easier to put them down for a nap. One of mine did not need a nap and refused to take one while the other would fall asleep for 2 hrs every day.

RE:Day time sleepers
A study was conducted to test the proposal that self-focused attention or monitoring exacerbates the perception of poor daytime functioning in the absence of objective deficits among individuals with insomnia. Fifty-one participants meeting Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders criteria for primary insomnia were randomly assigned to a self-focus group, a monitoring group, or a no instruction group while completing a battery of neuropsychological tests.
