Daycare

I am a stay-at-home mom. My husband and I have discussed at some point putting our son in daycare 1 day a week to socialize him with other kids. Is there an age that this would be best at (he is 15 months right now).

I think that as soon as he is able to move around by himself, whether it is creeping or walking, that way, he gets to explore his environment which at this point would include other kids.

I'm also a stay at home mom, and I wouldn't do daycare unless I had to. You can get socialization from so many things: mom's groups/playdates, story time at the library, and preschool starting at age 3. I think one day a week of daycare would just be confusing and stressfull. Just my opinion.

I agree there is no need for daycare. Daycare is a new thing-kids have done just fine for thousands of years. Find mother's groups, go to library story times, crafts, and reading programs. Go to the park!

Thank you for your advice. I actually located a play group that is for the under 3 age group and started attending those. My son loved it! It was so funny watching the baby's interact with each other. Lots of eye poking and toy snatching!

Libraries are wonderful resources for stay at home mothers, especially in the summer time. There are often reading programs for the summer, and the kids get prizes each week for going in with a reading log, and it's just books you read to them.

Then at the end of the program they get a big prize, like a cinema showing. There are crafts, movies, and educational shows on at our library this summer.

Daycare

Hi

Ever since my little girl was 9 months old she has been doing daycare, she goes three times a week and loves it.

She gets to play with her friends and meet new ones when new toddlers start at the nursery. I decided to go in this direction as I wanted her to mix with other children as the area we live in is quite rural and their is not many children around for her to play with.

She is our only child so she has no brothers or sisters to play with, only us adults really and I think it has done her the world of good, even to the point of being able to leave her on her own in nursery and letting her stand on her own two feet.

I also work from home so the three days my little one is nursery it gives me time to concentrate on my business.

I must say for me and Sophie this has worked really well but everyones life is different and other parents may consider daycare is not for them.

Cheers

Julie
