Dictation

I hope I have the right word. Do you teach your child how to say words or do you just leave it to when they can pronounce it on their own. My two year old keeps pronouncing M for N in almost every word that has those letters. Whenever he says the words I correct him, should I bother?

I guess this is a common thing among babies. Both my sons had this mispronunciation issue with the "m" and "n" letters, and I've heard others people's babies as well. I don't know if correcting them is effective or not. I corrected my children occasionally, and in time they quickly learned the right pronunciation.

I've heard you shouldn't correct them, just model the correct pronunciation, unless they are getting past the age when they should be able to say it correctly. You can look online for charts showing at what age they should be able to make what sounds.

I have heard you can correct them but not in a harsh way. M for N are tough ones and I think many kids go through this stage. How old is your little one now?

I chuckled imagining he saying moo for noo. I agree that it depends on the age. For a two year old kid, I think not able to say N yet is pretty normal.

I think it's important that you correct them but don't make an issue out of it. It will usually straighten itself out in time. Some of their words are hilarious though.

I have heard that it is effective you say the word the correct way after they say it incorrectly but don't make a big deal of it. You don't want the to feel bad about how they say the word.

I think every baby or child has done it at some time when they were little. Mostly, we just sit back and think how incredibly cute they are. I don't think most people go into teacher mode. I suppose you can, but they'll eventually get the word right anyway.
