Doesn't believe in the tooth fairy!

My 9 year old grandson has just admitted that he hasn't believed in the tooth fairy for some time because, he said, it was ridiculous to visualise a tiny little fairy struggling to lift a huge tooth! He didn't want to upset his parents so he pretended to believe for ages. I found this amusing and poignant at the same time.

I think it is funny that you have a grandson that does not believe in the tooth fairy and I have a son that is afraid of the tooth fairy. But I thought kids usually believed in fairy tales till they were at least 11 or 12!?

We have a fun thing we do. We have a friend who is "The Tooth Fairies Assistant". This way if the tooth fairy doesn't call they can call him up and report it and see whats going on. They can also negotiate how much they can get. For example they know cleaner teeth can be negotiated higher. I also have an AIM account with a tooth fairy name. The kids can talk to the tooth fairy on AIM about any issues about teeth. They just love this.

My grandson is a very mature 9 year old. Considering that he was a 3 months premature baby, he is amazing, with a reading age of 12 and a very analytical mind, so I suppose he worked it out after much deep thought!

I have a feeling my eight year old daughter feels the same way and just won't tell me. She is mature for her age as well. I just hope she doesn't say anything to her younger sister. It's sad when they stop believing in stuff like this.

As she is mature she probably realises that her yonger sister will be upset if she finds out, so hopefully she won't mention it. I know that when we asked my grandson not to say anything to his younger friends, he said that "of course" he wouldn't as though we should have already known that.

I was such a gullible kid. I believed in all that stuff until I was like 11, lol. I guess I knew deep down earlier than that, but it was such a nice fantasy I wanted to keep it going.

NanaSue - I think that's sweet that your grandson kept up the charade because he didn't want to disappoint his parents. It's nice that he's sensitive to other people's feelings.

Wait you mean there's NOT a Tooth Fairy!? Oh man I am going to have to go to counseling after this! Haha, just kidding. My oldest hasn't believed in awhile either but he does still help us with playing along for his younger siblings sake.
