Done with Naps!

I know every child is different but when did your kids stop taking an afternoon nap? My son is almost 2 and 1/2 and he is still sleeping a 2 hour nap. How did you know when your kid was just done with naps?

Most kids will let you know. They will be fighting sleep at nap time and not seem to need to nap. If he is napping happily then don't spoil it-life gets harder after naps are gone!

Mystery you are quite right on that one. My son stopped about that age or a little longer, it would depend though as sometimes he would have long days between shuttle of the babysitter and parents. My girl is still napping but not quite 2 yet and she has some days when she doesnt nap at all.

I saw as long at they are still napping... don't spoil a good thing! You will know when he's done with naps, he'll just refuse them or be a bear to put down at night time.

Right, most kids will usually let you know when they are done. My daughter, on the other hand, never did. I made sure to start taking her off her naps during the summer before kindergarten.

Looking back, mine were all about two when they finished naps. I would put them in their beds and they'd play instead. I changed it to quiet time for a couple more months then stopped altogether.

My first two kids stopped taking naps at about 2 1/2 or 3 years old. My youngest- who is 3 1/2 years old, sometimes still takes a nap. If it's not early enough though, she is a bear to go to sleep at night.
