early baby

We had a shower planned for a friend who ended up going into labor and having her baby three months early, and a week before her baby shower. It was completely unexpected, and we ended up having the shower after she and her daughter got home, but I wonder what other people would have done in the same circumstance.

I went to a shower once where the mom wasn't even present. She went into labor the night before, and it was too late to cancel. So, they just went on with everything as planned. The "mommy's" sister filled in for her to open the gifts and everything was videotaped so she could see it. She actually watched the video in her hospital room. After she was home and everything was settled a bit, a bunch of us who were at the shower all got together for lunch, just to give her the party aspect that she missed. Some of us even brought another small gift to the lunch.

Lily I think that is a great idea to do with a fill in. For my son, we were planning to have the shower about 2 weeks before I was due, he ended up being 3 weeks early and I never got a shower.

Those are cute ideas, and now I don't feel as bad for what we did. Some of us went ahead and got additional gifts for the time when she actually came home, as none of us had planned on premie items being a necessity. The idea of a fill-in is really cute
