Finally acceptance

Two days after my new grandson came home, his 2 year old sister told her mom to call the hospital; they can come get him now. We explained he was hers to keep; the one we kept talking about in her mom's tummy. My daughter called to say that while breastfeeding, his sister climbed on her lap and held her breast to her brother's mouth. She asked him if he was getting enough.

That's sweet. The more things she can help her mom do with the baby, the more she can feel like she is a helper to her brother and take delight in her role as 'big sis'.

It's certainly a good thing that she is accepting her little brother as jealousy can be a problem. My daughter involved her three year old in all aspects of looking after the new baby and it worked.

That is sweet. I know it can be so hard for the older child to accept this new child that gets so much of moms attention. But so wonderful to see the connection being made.

That's better than my kids. When they were small the older one would pull the baby off my lap during nursing. Way to go and good luck.

That is great she is now accepting. My older child asked mommy if he could drink her milk just like the baby. He is 5 so obviously the answer was no.

That is so nice to hear. It makes it so much easier when the new baby is accepted and there is no resentment.

That's cute! It would be great to involve the sister in taking care of the baby. It's good to develop her sense of belonging of her younger sibling.
