First Aid Kit Contents

I am concerned that I do not have a sufficiently well stocked medical kit in the house. I am not one for running to the docs at every sniffle or scrape and as such feel as though I should be prepared for helping deal with minor issues.

What do you keep at home?

I don't have so much a kit but the supplies in a drawer. In it I have preoxide, bandaids, a hot water bottle, gauze and gauze pads, a rubber cord to slow blood flow (I can't remember what it's called), scissors, medical tape, tensor bandages, and vaseline. I also keep tylenol, pepto bismol, and tums. Oh, and neo citrin. I don't use cough syrups or decongestants so we don't keep them on hand.

Idee First Aid Kits for families

Not sure if you're in the UK, but I found a great site that had all I needed.

http://www.medirite.co.uk/acatalog/F...t_Aid_Kit.html

It certainly had all the bits and bobs I needed.

Think of the most common injuries

You're obviously not usually going to be dealing with severe injuries at home unless you're a doctor so think about the typical things that tend to happen and plan for that.

Most common minor household injuries in my house seemed to be small cuts, scrapes, bruises, bloody noses, burns and muscle strain. Accordingly, I keep supplies on hand that will let me deal with those situations quickly. Here's what I have:

Bandages of various sizes and shapes
Gauze roll and gauze pads
Reusable ice packs (in a pinch, use a bag of frozen veggies-works great)
Alcohol
Peroxide (do not use undiluted on a wound-it can damage the good tissue)
Antibiotic ointment (triple antibiotic and Neosporin)
Burn ointment
Ace bandage
Heating pad
Hot water bottle
Ipecac (only if directed by poison control or label-can be dangerous to induce vomiting in some cases)
