First time mom

Not myself of course but a family member of mine and I have no idea what to get her, other than a little of everything. Im thinking a large gift basket, good choice?

When my best friend got pregnant I went with sensible stuff. Everyone buys stuffed animals, cutesy stuff. We bought bath stuff from the J&J bedtime line. We also got her a small giftcard at Babys-r-Us and a couple free magazine subscriptions and coupons and formula samples every chance we get.

When I was expecting my daughter I really loved all the baby bath, lotions, diapers, and onesies I got. You can never have enough of those! I say get her lots of practical gifts that she will use everyday over and over. Those cutesy outfits are nice, but sometimes they wear them once and before you know it they've completely grown out of them.

Yep I agree,

It's great to get all the adorable bits and bobs; but practical items are your best bet.

The main ones that spring to mind diapers (you really carn't have enough of these) and they cost a fortune; week in week out; so plenty of diapers.

Onesies are another safe and practical gift idea they will be used often and not just put to one side after the baby has only worn it once.

Alternatively fill up a tote bag with all the essential items that a new baby may need, including the ones mentioned above, add baby bath products, socks, bibs, cream for the babies bottom, baby crib blankets etc

and as you say a large gift basket with all the practical bits in would go down a treat.

Cheers

Julie
