Flash cards

I was thinking about getting some flash cards for my son, but I'm not sure if he's too young. Do you think a year old is the right time for that? I was just going to get the basic ones with colors and the alphabet and maybe shapes, but I don't want to act like one of those moms who is trying to create a genius.

Why not? You can never start too early and most have different sets. We still have some that I found which had like a D for duck with the ducks body being fuzzy. I wish I remembered where I got them from though.

The earlier you start the better. It is not about creating a genius. It is about expanding his horizons. My friend made sure she started with the sight words at 3 years and her boy knew how to read when he entered kindergarten. Mind you, he wasn't reading Shakespear, but it was reading.

I don't think a year is too young. We go over colors, numbers, letters, and body parts everyday and we add more stuff every week.

Lächeln Flashcards are never too early

I think flashcards cannot be too early at any time as long as the baby has fun looking at them. They are sooo earger to learn and learn new things every day, every minute, so why not support them in learning. We found some Iphone apps with flashcards for Yannis, e.g. there´s one that shows animals, you can hear the animal name and what sound it makes (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id426148813?mt=8&ls=1). And there are several others. Yannis likes it because the animals make a sound and we look through it together and he hears how the animals are called. Of course "real" flashcards and picture books are also extremely useful.

Using flash cards is the best way to "introduce" the World to baby. At their first month, you can use "black & whilte" cards, then turns to images only flash cards, words only flash cards. They are so smart to pick up and memorized everything very fast. The more informaton you give, the more they will learn.
