Flying

I was looking in to getting CARES for my kids for flying, since when we move we'll be doing that a lot more frequently. Well my 3 year old is too big for them. She's not big enough to fit safely with just a lap belt and the carseat is just too cramped, she kicks the seat in front the whole time if we do that. Grrr.

What is CARES? I haven't heard of it before.

I haven't flown with a little one yet, but I know how tight the space is. So yes it's likely that leg room is problematic.

I'm sorry that she's outgrown it already!

CARES stands for something like Child Aviation REstraint System and it's basically a vest that goes onto the seatbelt, and then a strap that goes around the back of the seat. It stops forward excursion that the belt alone would not.

Sounds like you're in a bind. I'm not sure what to suggest. We recently flew with our 2 year old in his carseat and had the same problem with him kicking the seat in front of him.
Right before we left I heard about CARES but didn't have the time to order it. I guess I better check into the height/weight restrictions to make sure it will accommodate my son.

I'd never heard of these, so I just googled them. They look great, but $75!!!! I'd have to fly an awful lot to make that worth it. Add that on top of the 300 dollar carseat you "should" buy, and I'm going to be broke keeping my kids safe.

Arg! That's a terrible price for something so simple! It's just a bunch of webbing straps and velcro! I really don't see what merits that price, sorry I just don't.
