Gardasil

Anyone else have any fears about giving their daughters this vaccine? I saw on the news last night that there actually deaths from this vaccine, plus that it is really not needed because regular pap smears catch most cases of cervical cancer before it gets real bad. Now, I know that cervical cancer is bad and if women want to get the vaccine and slim down their chances of developing cervical cancer-no matter what the side effects, well, that's fine. I just think it should be given when they are out of their teens. My daughter will not be getting this vaccine if there is any way around it.

My daughter will not be getting this vaccine unless she chooses it for herself. I hope to convince her otherwise and arm her with information to make an informed choice. We selectively vaccinate though, and this is definitely one I don't feel is necessary and worth the risks.

I guess I haven't given it much thought or really looked at the issue. What is the worry with the vaccine? We do almost all the vaccines, except we delayed the hep B vaccine until puberty, and the chicken pox vaccine we skipped.

Lots of FDA approves substances have death as a possible side effect. I recall an acne medication which had death as a side effect. I was working telemarketing for a OTC acne treatment and was appalled at the fine print.

Anything with hormones or reproductive organs seems to be especialy finicky. Just like the patch, at first glance its the next best thing then the real news leaks out.

I am glad that I don't have a daughter to make this decision for. I would certainly prefer to protect her from the virus, if I had a daughter though. I have friends who had cervical cancer due to HPV in their mid-20's and I wouldn't wish that on my child for anything. I think the vaccine is a great idea, but they really need to do much more research on it before giving it out.

My vote will be no for this and hope with education others will understand more themselves before making a hasty choice. I see so many doctors tell us what we should do but seldom do they tell us all the side effects.
