I keep seeing these coupons, but the fine print doesn't explain whats so different about DHA cereal compared to normal cereal? Its if for digestion, nutrition, what?

DHA I believe is an essential fatty acid that is most often found in fish oils. It's needed for healthy brain and eye development. It might be one of the things found in breast milk that baby food manufacturers are now trying to copy.

This site is a good explanation of what DHA is. Esentially it's a brain fat that the human body needs. Without it brain and eye development are hindered. Deficiency is linked to numerous ailments, including ADD and poor eyesight. It's extremly important. It's found mainly in cold water fish and breastmilk. Some formulas also add it. I've noticed many other foods starting to have it added now as well.

I think that they are having to add it. Fish is no longer the recommended and safe food it once was. We now know that it has mercury in it that can cause problems to growing children, so between that and the fact that so many children are formula fed, something had to be done.

DHA is the exception to the idea that if you can't pronounce it you shouldn't eat it or feed it to your kids. But seriously, have you ever read the full chemical name of DHA? I think its great they are adding it to more foods these days, but I wonder if we digest it the same in real fish or as an additive?
