We have a year old Calico in the house that was perfectly fine with our youngest who is 1 1/2 yr. This is even true when our girl takes the cats tail and gives it back to the cat, like she is saying "Hey this is yours". They get along great too which really surprised me with a new and younger feline.
alexis, we got a cat in december, and he is just amazing with my 2 (3 years and 13 months). I feel like we really lucked out that we found a cat that not only tolerates them, but LIKES them.
My cats get along great with my kids, and there has absolutely never been any problems despite some urban folklore you may have heard about young children and cats.
Actually, my cats are almost entirely inseparable from my kids!
In fact, I would say they both are the better for it too.
My outside cats are scared of my girl, but she does get pretty loud sometimes. The inside cat (the calico) is really patient with her, and the cat will get her stuffed mouse and bring it to us (she plays fetch) our girl will pick up the mouse and throw it, cat fetches and they play..........really cute, but odd that a cat plays fetch.
I don't have a cat but there is one living in my building. My son is terrified of him! But he looks out the window and waits till he comes out, sometimes the cat doesn't come out and my son tells me "Mami the kitty is taking toever(he means forever) to come out!"
