Good trips

We all hope for good trips and never always get them, so what about some of the bad trips? You know the ones where you get to pull over every few hours, or someone gets carsick. What about those?

I have not had too many bad ones I guess I have been lucky. The best by far was a trip that was 1/2 a day of driving and my child slept through all of it, however we were up all night once we got there.

When we moved one year in the summer from down south to way up north (Florida to Mass) I got the worst sinus infection ever. I walked around with a blanket and teddy bear in the 90degree heat I was so miserable. My parents wanted to sight see and look about and all I wanted to do was sleep. I was 12.

A few years ago we went to Maine (from Vermont) with another family. In total their were 5 cars between all of us (16 people). Someone had the brilliant idea of riding in a line with radios so we can talk to each other. Worst mistake ever! 2 cars (mine and 1 other) had small kids, and do you think they all had to go to the bathroom at the same time? Nope. I think we stopped twice for them. Then another car started overheating, so we all stopped to check that out. Then the older lady who was in another car had to get out and stretch cause her back hurt. It took about 6.5 hours to make a 4 hour trip. Never again!

On a family vacation when I was a kid, my grandfather split his chin open while we were white water rafting in Colorado. Then a few days later he comes down with a severe ear infection from having water in his ear and not getting it out. We spent quite some time that vacation in the emergency clinic!

We've had pretty good luck so far. We lost a tire in the Rockies on our drive from Seattle to Iowa, but we were only 30 miles from Missoula (it could have been much further!). We did have to buy a car just before leaving because our old car blew out the engine, but it was better for that to happen before we left than during our trip!

About 6 years ago when I was in hs I took a class trip on a cruise to Mexico (Carnival). The first night we ran ashore on the Louisiana river bank. We were able to get off but deemed unsafe to travel out in the open water, so we headed to Key West instead (big disappointment) we docked at Key West but were only give 2 hrs until we had to be back on the ship because the boat had to turn around and go back to New Orleans. It was about a 1 mile walk to the beach so we got about 30 min on the beach before we had to get back on the ship. So on a 5 day cruise we got 2 hrs off the boat! Then on the way back we went through Gail Force Winds (Hurricane like winds) we woke up with the boat tilted a lot. You couldn't stand up straight and no one was aloud on the decks of the ship because waves were crashing over. The staff all had their lifejackets on (scary) we made it through but it was difently scary. Overall a bad bad trip!

Then on my honeymoon my husband and I decided to take a cruise (Carnival) I'm not sure why after the first trip though. We lived in TX and decided we really wanted to go to the boat that went to Jamaica so we flew to Miami (cost us an extra $700) we could have driven and embarked out of Galveston but nooooo we wanted to go to Jamaica. When we arrived to board the ship in Miami they said there were still people on the previous voyage that were sick on board and they were trying to take care of that. So they sent buses and took all of the passengers on our cruise to South Beach (thats a lot of people) it was hot crowded and we waited on buses for hours (not fun) We woke up on the first morning we were stopped (I thought oh great here we go again) Apparently a girl had jumped overboard during the night and they weren't sure who or what exactly had happened. We were told to wait in our room all morning until they found out what was going on. (Apparently she got into a fight and jumped overboard without a life jacket) The coast guard came and everything. They finally found her (surprisingly) after 13 hrs of searching (we were stopped the whole time) We were told we were way behind schedule (duh) and did not have enough time to go to JAMAICA!!!!! Ugh that was the worst honeymoon ever, and the biggest waste of money. I would not ever take a FREE Carnival Cruise if they offered it to me nor would I reccommend anyone to go.

We had to travel from New York to South Carolina when my 3rd child was 6. That's when we found out she suffered from motion sickness. She did not throw up; she became semi comatose. We'd stop often, because she would just flop over. When I took her out of the car, she slid down to the ground. It was like she had no bones and she was incoherent. She had to be carried to the rest room. She couldn't take Dramamine because she was in that condition. That trip took hours and hours. After that she was like that even on short car rides. She's 30 now, and she sleeps to avoid being sick if she's not driving.

My daughter used to get HORRIBLY carsick, even on short trips. I learned quickly to keep an extra change of clothes in the car - and plastic bags! Poor kid. She really had it rough for a while. Thankfully, she outgrew it!
