Grandbabies staying the night

How old do you think a baby should be before they stay over? My daughter always asks about my 3 yo grandson staying with me. But I'm afraid he would wake up and get in to things or get out or get hurt without me hearing. She understands my fears, and points out that he cosleeps with her, but I sleep naked and I can't sleep in clothes so I can't do that.

My son is trying to go camping and wants to drop a 2 month old on me (that will be how old he is by then). I only agreed because my daughter promised to come over and stay the night with her son in the same room as the baby. It really bothers me that such a tiny baby will be staying the night in my home. What if something happens? I'm just glad my daughter is so excited to spend a whole night playing with her nephew.

My middle child with her first child, actually lives with me. I don't mind helping out since her and her SO are "just starting out and getting their lives settled". I am pretty sure the first time I left any of my children with my mother they were a couple of months old. I think it depends if the grandparents have any issues that may limit their ability to watch the child, no matter what age.

I have been having my Grandson over night once each week since he was 4 weeks old. He wasn't sleeping much and my daughter was exhausted. I think a lot depends on when mum feels comfortable about leaving the baby. It doesn't affect the baby in any way, and it gets them used to being left with some-one else other than mum.

I think it also depends on how comfortable the parents are with the grandparents. With mine, it wouldn't have happened. In fact, even now, it won't happen. I don't trust the grandmother, and my child is rather high needs on top of that.

So agreed, case by case.

I hadn't thought about that point; that the parents need to be comfortable with the Grandparents and not just comfortable about leaving their children with some one over night. Sorry!

My mom keeps my sisters kids any time that she wants some time to herself. I tell my mom all the time to just tell her no. My mom isn't old, just 57 but she does have some health problems. It doesn't help that my neices and nephews just love coming to granny's house and she couldn't stand them not coming over to spend the night.

I think my daughter was 3 or 4 the first time she spent the night alone at my mother's house. She slept in bed with my mother (who does not sleep naked) the first time, and after that we bought her a twin aerobed.
