Grandparents Who Raise Grandkids More Than Parents

More and more it seems my mom has friends who do just as much raising of their grandkids as the parents do. Not to mention my best friend who just stopped over earlier to ask if I wanted to go to the mall after she dropped her son of at her moms and my sister-in-law who has my mother-in-law babysitting her kids 5 days a week for free and picking them up half the time as well. I know I keep reading about adult children moving back home to help with costs or saving for their own place, but when did it become ok for grandparents to raise kids for their children just because they don't seem to want to be responsible?

I know someone like that too and their answer is they were an only child so of course his mother is pleased to watch his child anytime needed or asked. I just don't get it, even if you guess 8 weekend days a month and the child is there full time (day and night) at least 4 days, isn't that a little too much? I dont mean if the person is a single parent, but even being at the grams any chance the parent can do whatever just pisses me off abit.

Sometimes I wonder why parents do these things, is it a case where they were not taught to be responsible as they grew up so they now take light their responsibility?

My cousin drops her son off weekly at his grandmothers so she can go out and get drunk. She says it's because she "needs a break", but come on...you don't break from parenting! My daughter does go to my moms to stay the night every Friday night, but it's because she asks to and not so I can "take a break" (besides, I still have the baby with me). Yes, parents do need breaks every now and again, but not when it becomes excessive.

It kind of pisses me off when people use their parents as babysitters all the time. I don't mean lets visits the parents once a month, I mean every single weekend. We are to do more for our kids than our parents did and I'm sure our parents don't want to be parents again either so whats up besides people being lazy all the time?

I don't want to generalize, but I see more young people who are totally irresponsible about many things, their children being one of those.

I have 1 daughter and 1 stepdaughter. Thankfully my daughter is a good mom and I don't have to worry about her son, but my stepdaughter is a different story.

If my husband and I along with the other grandparents didn't parent her little boy, he wouldn't be taken care of. She is way to concerned with everything else but taking care of him seems to be low on her priority list. Such a shame, he is such a precious little boy.
