Gummy vitamins

all this talk of vitamins has reminded me...

Anyone else HATE the idea of gummi vitamins? Why on earth would you want vitamins that are like candy? Yeah, I know you want the kids to take them, but you also don't want them to eat a whole jar if they somehow get a hold of it. (and I know people have all the intentions of keeping those things out of reach, but all it takes is one little forget to leave them out and the kids WILL find them!)

We do liquid vitamins, which I think are not all that tasty, but dd likes them, so that's the important thing. I keep them in a locked box in the refridgerator.

Yes, I find the idea of ALL of the candy like medicines to be horrific. Tylennol is flavoured like sweets, and you have a wide range of flavours. Too many medicines are being made flavourful because children won't take them otherwise-and yet in our generation we all took what we needed when we needed it. What's the difference now?

The difference is people who were made to take bad tasting things want to let their kids have a "better childhood" and have become weak, permissive parents. I agree. I've never liked the idea of gummy vitamins, gumball vitamins, or good tasting meds (they even have flavor kits to use at home and the pharmacy). Itsnot supposed to taste good its supposed to make you healthy. Instead of teaching kids medicine tastes good we need to teach parents to be parents.

I simply can't stand gummy vitamins. The kid id too little to know the difference between them and the regular gummies. One of two things can happen. a child will think that the vitamins are gummy candy and may risk taking the whole bottle. The other is they will think the regular gummies are vitamins and will think they're good for him.

We should not be confusing our kids by pretendin one is the other.

When I first read the title I thought I would have to be the negative comment on the board. I think most of us think that candy look a like gummi vitamins are a bad idea.

I think you'd be surprised at how many people use and like them! I recall when I was a nanny, before I had kids, the people I nannied for used them and some gummies that were supposed to be 3 servings of veggies or some such nonsense. One of their kids actually got into some vitamins while I was working one day and I had to call poison control (incidentally, it was chewable vitamin c tabs, and not much left in the bottle, which was up on the breakfast counter and I didnt' see them. I felt horrible, but then, I wasn't the one who left them out without a cap on them!)

I'm glad you all agree with me though!

You are not alone in feelings like this. There seems to be a lack of common sense across the board today when it comes to medicine, and the treatment and prevention of disease.

I think that in an effort to encourage children to take their meds, they have gone overboard without realizing it. Some of the medicines are so sweet, they cause a hyperactive child to run wild.

I think its silly myself, I mean my kids might eat candy but I don't want them to think all good things comes in gummy form too. I had Flintstones when I was younger but I remember hitting my teen years wondering why they were ever made.
