Help, Any Advice?

Hi everyone, im new so I hope this question Is appropriate for here, ok I am a fairly new father but my question is for other mothers, after the pregnancy my girl friend became very depressed, now I know a lot of this is due to the fact that we are very young parents and our baby was not planned, i was 16 she was 17, however is this normal for mothers? And how long does it usually last for because our baby is a little over a year now and my girl friend still seems depressed and just overall unhappy, iv done everything I can think of to make things easier I dropped out of school to take care of our child while she finishes school but she just seems to resent me, i don't know what to do anymore any advice would be very helpful.

Btw this is my little guy, hes just amazing, I love him so much

Most likely part of the problem is that she is insecure in your relationship because you are not married. She's going to need a lot of love, thoughtfulness and consideration to help pull her out of this. It may be that you are giving more time to your little one than you are to her, too.

Also, a lot of new mothers experience post partum depression which starts after a few weeks and can last several months. If it's lasting longer than that she needs to see someone for help. It could be hormonal. And she could feel that her life has deadended. Talk, Talk, Talk.

I think after a year it would be a good idea for her to see a Dr. It can be very difficult being a young parent and she may me missing out on all the things she used to be able to do. Keep supporting her. After she finishes school get your GED.

Have her see a doc, who can find out quicker than you (no offense) what is going on. Some do have PPD and others are just not sure where life is taking them yet, this tends to happen to more mothers than you would think. And the above person is correct, GED, while you did drop out for good reasons a GED is always better than nothing at all, no matter how honorable.

What a gorgeous little boy! It sounds to me like you are doing everything that you can. I would try talking to her and maybe see if she will go see someone to talk about her feelings. Post partum depression is real and sometimes it doesn't go away by itself.

He is adorable!!

If you can, encourage her to talk to her doctor.

Two natural things that *might* help are B vitamins (a good "B complex") and omega-3 (fish oil).
