Hopefully This Doesn't Happen to Us...

Well earlier today my neighbour came to my door crying and freaking out saying that she found out that her daughter was smoking pot. She's only 14 years old.

I'm not worried about my son doing anything like that yet - he's still way too young to even really know what half of the things he eats are sometimes ( lol ) but really, eventually we're going to have to deal with talking to our kids about this kind of thing. Another scary thing is though, this kind of stuff is getting a lot more common among teenagers and younger adults lately...

Have any of you had to deal with it lately?

Not yet, my two can't even walk yet. I fear that day-I think that we all put off dealing with things like that when in fact we should be taking it in hand right from the start. Spend time with your kids, talk to them (even if they can't talk back) and let them know you are there for them.

I have seen studies where kids in middle school are starting with drugs already. What else did the neighbor say, what did she do? I have no idea what would happen if I were in that situation. I don't have kids but I'm sure I would freak out as well. Seems this stuff is everywhere now, and its well past a "growing epidemic".

I am concerned about this too as I have two teenagers. I don't think they are into anything like that now but I know it doesn't take too much to get them experimenting or yielding to peer pressure. If they ever do, I'd like to catch it real early so I can make a positive intervention.
