How do I convince

both my family that nursing twins IS possible without using formula? My guys are 6 weeks and have never had a bottle, let alone formula. It has been great bonding time and knowing I'm giving them the very best I can, but I am getting tired off explaining to people that the don't need formula. I've got a couple of great books, and talked with LLL and am know that I can nurse them exclusively. How do I convince my family of that?

Why bother? Sounds like they won't believe it until its done and even then they might argue the validity of what they saw. You need to give them boundaries and make it understood that you appreciate their concern but you are breastfeeding and feel that is best for your children.

The best validation for most people is seeing the increase in weight and size of the baby. I know that as a new mother I was concerned about how well my daughter was growing, because she would only nurse for five minutes, on one side, and then was done. I just made a lot of milk and had a fast let down but when the experts and everyone around you are telling you that baby needs to nurse for fifteen minutes each side, then you start to worry.

But when she hit 12lb 10oz at 2 months old I quit worrying. So you should by 6 weeks have some weigh ins under your belt-just show them that the babies are growing as they should be. There can be no better proof than that.

Just do what you know best, I found that when I listened to others instead of following my instincts, I normally go wrong. Be accountable to your babies.

I couldn't agree more. Tell them to just look at your healthy babes for confirmation. At 6 weeks, you've got a good nursing relationship established, and I'd imagine your babes are gaining good weight. The proof is in the chubby thighs! Anyone who is worried, tell them "thank you but my doctor isn't worried, my children are gaining weight and thriving, and this is the best thing for them"

Kudoes to you for nursing twins!!!

Ultimately, you're the mommy and they are your kids not anyone else's. Other people can give you whatever advice they want but to don't have to listen to it and in the end you make the decisions for the twins health, feeding ,etc.
So, what I'm saying is do what you want and who cares what other people think.

Your post was a month ago... I'm hoping nursing is still going well for you and the heat has tapered off! Kudos on nursing two, I know it's not easy sometimes!

I know for sure its not easy. A close friend nursed her twins and she was ever so tired after the first month alone. I would suggest the person telling you all for formula to stay with you for a week and see how its done and that it can be done, otherwise they will never believe ya!
