How long?

I personally did not breastfeed my children but I am just flabbergasted by my one friend who has a three year old who she continues to breastfeed! I can't imagine going past when they teeth and such. How long did you or do you plan to breastfeed for?

My wife breast feed till our son was one years old. He got teeth at about 9 months and that is when she went to just pumping. I can not imagine that it is healthy for a 3 year old to be breastfeeding.

I think breast feeding until age one is normal. I don't understand the need to go past that as the child is put on cow's milk at that age. To breast feed a three year old is very strange to me.

Well, to be honest, my mother breastfed me till I was three year old. It might be because I am the last child hence my mother didn't expect another child.

It does seem strange until you start doing extended breastfeeding yourself. Why must a child drink milk from another species when the mom makes the perfect milk designed specifically for humans?

Breast feeding or not is a very personal choice and breast feeding until the age of two is no longer uncommon at all. No one should be judged for their breast feeding choices.

Whether from the milk comes from the actual breast or not, a child really shouldn't be drinking from anything other than a cup by age two.

Three is still pretty young. One of mine was 2 years and 9 months when he weaned, and now at age 5, he doesn't remember nursing. My current one is 2 years and 4 months and I haven't weaned her yet. It isn't really anyone else's business how long a mom breastfeeds her baby. It is not unusual in some cultures to breastfeed until the child is 5. I agree with Lainey.

That reminds me of an Adam Sandler movie called "Grown Ups". They are sitting around talking and Kevin James characters wife has a kid who is breat feeding and everyone is looking in shock. They ask him how old the kid is and he says, "48 months" to be slick about it.

I will probably breast feed my baby until teething. I'll consult my doctor to get advice when the time comes though.
