I have a nine month old girl who nurses all day long it seems. It's all she ever wants to do, and if she isn't nursing she cries. She won't stay in a crib or play yard, or let me lay her on a blanket so I can do housework-she'll crawl after me crying unless I am holding her.

She has solids meals, though not much. How long will I be a milk machine?

I have 3 children, and each has been different. My first "weaned" at 11 months (I say "weaned" because I now believe that he was on a nursing strike that I mistook for weaning), my second (my girl) was a nursing maniac until she was 16 months and barely ate before that. Then she slowed down nursing and I weaned her at 26 months. My third is now 20 months and has been a food lover since I introduced solids at 6 months, and nurses about 3-4 times a day now, has for most of the last year (upon waking in the morning, before and after nap, and at bed time). He self-night-weaned at 7.5 months, I feel so lucky! DD night nursed until she was 20 months old.

It varies for each child, some finish being a breast feeder early while others continue up to the age of 3 or 4. As Kate said to get them off milk, you need to slowly wean them off your milk.

My daughter is still nursing, and does so quite frequently. I am expecting it to drop off soon as she is now interested in so many other things and finally, her solid consumption is getting better.

So it really could be a while. However if the duration of her nursing is becoming a problem, then you could try limiting the time. Give her a count down, tell her that at the end you will go do something else with her.

Also, if being held is a problem, have you considered or tried a sling for her? Give you free hands so that you can do what need to.

My little one was weaned at 8 months or so. He seem not to miss it much, when he sees my breast, he pokes at them, I guess he forgot what they are for.

Not long enough. I miss nursing my kids so much. I miss bieng able to nurture them and be the only thing they ever needed. It may seem like she's nursing all the time right now, but try to savor it. It won't last forever.
