For our first child, my wife was in labour for about 10 hours. That was rough. I felt so helpless. However our last two were much easier, less pain and much quicker - as a matter of fact, she nearly had the last child without any help.
For my first child, it took 6 hours from start to finish, my second 4 hours and my last took 9 hours. And yes, having them break your water,to me, makes for a harder birth. Especially since they had to induce plus break my water, seven hours before giving birth!
